A Qualitative Analysis of Islamiyat at Grade 5th Level at Public Sector Primary

Abstract

The objective of this study was to carry out qualitative content analysis of the Islamiyat textbook for Grade 5 into public sector primary schools regarding Quranic Verses and Ahadiths of Hazrat Muhammad (ﷺ). Two goals are pursued in the study: firstly, to link the content of Islamiyat with Quranic basis as well, and secondly, to discuss its status vis-a-vis Hadith literature. The whole grade 5 Islamiyat book was selected as a sample using qualitative content analysis approach. The data were collected through document analysis where all the chapters, lessons, Quranic verses, Ahadith, exercises and learning activities were systematically reviewed. Results The results are summarized in themes of faith, worship, moral values, social responsibilities and character building. These finding showed that there are more than 100 references in the context of both Holy Quran and Ahadith of Hazrat Muhammad (ﷺ) in this textbook. This includes Quranic verses that affirm the beliefs, worship methods and moral standards necessary to train students, while Ahadith give practical guidance to everyday behavior. The analysis also revealed that some of the most commonly mentioned values are honesty, respect, caring, responsibility, cooperation and cleanliness. It concludes that the Grade 5 Islamiyat curriculum adequately represents. The main teachings of Islam help people learn and grow in a way. This is good for their spirit. Helps them make good choices. People who make school plans teachers and those in charge of schools can use this information to make Islamic education better, in primary schools.
